Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks have hired former safety Maurice Kelly as Director of Player Development, the team announced today.

Kelly will be responsible for acting as a liason between players and the front office, as well as coordinating players to complete their college educations and preparing them for life after football through various job internship and life skills programs.

He played for the Seahawks in 2000 and 2001, appearing in 26 games with three starts, and totaling 26 tackles (19 solo) and one pass defensed. He also added 18 special teams tackles in his two seasons.

His playing career began in the CFL before his time in Seattle and spent seven seasons in the league. Spent four seasons with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (1998-99, 2003-04) and appeared in 71 regular season games. He also had stints with Las Vegas, Toronto and B.C. and played in a total of 140 CFL regular season games.

Last year with the Blue and Gold, he led the team in tackles with 64 and special teams tackles with 21. He also collected two fumble recoveries, one interception and one sack.

Born October 7, 1972 in Orangeburg, S.C., he married his wife, Dionne, March 3, 2002.
